Flying Trapeze is here!

Information on the SANCA School of Flight

Moving from merely a novelty to a solid fitness workout for such stars as Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman, Leonardo DiCaprio and others, flying trapeze training has found its way to Seattle. The School of Acrobatics & New Circus Arts (SANCA), Seattle’s landmark circus school in Georgetown, will now make taking-to-the-air available for everyone: students from 7-70 years of age, Tara swingbeginners to advanced aerial performers. Although gaining popularity in other major cities, the SANCA School of Flight will be the first to offer trapeze training in the Northwest. “Safety is our number one priority,” says Jo Montgomery, SANCA’s Executive Director. “Each flyer has safety lines attached to a harness worn at all times and those lines are operated by highly skilled professional trapeze instructors, artists and performers, recruited from throughout the United States and Europe.” Initially classes will run during the day and evening, Friday through Sunday and will be limited to 10 students per two-hour instructional session. Private parties and corporate team building events are also available by reservation.

Chuck Johnson is the man behind the construction of the new “big top” and is SANCA’s Program Director. A certified heavy construction and stunt rigger, Johnson’s credits include rigging for the first Spiderman movie. He is also a professional acrobatics coach and has taught competitive, recreational and fitness gymnastics. “We have been working on getting a flying trapeze rig to Seattle for a number of years. We are so excited for students to come to our School of Flight Charley splitand experience the freedom, fun and confidence building that the flying trapeze can offer. Georgetown will now have two flight schools; one at Boeing Field and the other under our Big Top.”
